How Lost Phone Exposed Robbery Gang

Paul Goddy and Odudu John, one-chance robbery suspects, currently in the South West Zone cell of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris Intelligence Squad (IRT), have confessed that had it been one of their gang members did not carelessly lose his phone during operation, they wouldn’t have been caught by the police.

The IRT team led by Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), is investigating the suspects for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.
Daily Independent investigation revealed that the duo and others still at large specialize in carrying unsuspecting passengers with a Camry car and thereafter, robbed them of their monies and other valuables in Lagos.

In one of their operations, according to the police, which took place on the 24th of March, 2018, the suspects picked an unsuspected passenger and zoomed off after robbing the victim.

Unfortunately, the telephone handset of one of the robbers fell off. Equipped with the handset, the IRT swung into action, tracked and arrested Paul who was calling that line consistently. His confession led to the arrest of John.

Confessing his role in the robbery allegation, John Dudu, 28, from Akwa Ibom state declared: “I do craft work at Maryland, Lagos. I met the gang in a joint where we smoke Indian hemp in Oshodi. It was there we planned to engage in robbery operations and started in March. During operation, we carry innocent passengers and robbed them. We operate along Oshodi and Airport road.

We operate like five times a day. It was Afam, our gang member who is at large that provided the locally made pistol we use during operation, while Matthew, also at large provides the Camry car we use”.

Also, Paul Goddy, a 27-year-old man who claimed he had a child said: “I am from Kwale in Delta State. I am a furniture maker. After my graduation, I had no money to commence the business, so I joined the gang.

During operation, I can sit anywhere in the car to give space for the person we want to rob. I can sit in front or back of the car, pretending to be a passenger.”
Paul said that he makes up to N30,000, N20,000 or N10,000 after operation depending on the amount their victims had.

“All of us share whatever we realized. But for phones, we give to Afam to sell and bring back the proceeds for sharing because he is the one that knows the receivers.”
