Kenya: Woman Blinded, Her Finger Cut Off By Husband But Police Can't Help
The Director of Criminal Investigations has pleaded with a victim of domestic violence to report the matter to the nearest police station in order for investigations to start.
The hands of police are tied in cases of domestic violence where the complainant has not reported the matter to police. Investigations can only start after the victim records a statement with the police.
The victim was reportedly beaten and blinded in one eye by her husband who also cut off her finger. She is said to have been admitted at a hospital and was later released.
Photos of the victim have gone viral on Twitter after being posted by one John Bosco Juma.
“Please advise her to make a report at her nearest Police Station and we will follow up the matter,” tweeted the DCI on Tuesday.
According to Juma, the victim’s name is Maurine from Seme, Kisumu county, and she was discharged from hospital three days ago.
