Former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo Dies Serving A 3-Year Sentence

Former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo is dead. He died this morning at Mbagathi Hospital. The 68-year-old passed on at the hospital where he was admitted after a short illness.

He died while serving a three-year jail term in Nairobi West Prison over illegal acquisition of cemetery land valued at KSh 283 million, a higher value than the market rate.

He was jailed alongside his co-accused former local government permanent secretary Sammy Kirui, former Nairobi City Council legal secretary Mary Ng’ethe and chairman of the tender committee Alexander Musee. They were all found culpable in the purchase of the cemetery land in Mavoko, Athi River in 2009.
