Real Madrid Tops Man Utd As World’s Richest Club

Mubasher: Real Madrid has overtaken Manchester United as the world’s wealthiest club, according to a report.

The Champions League winner generated a record GBP 665.2 million ($868.15 million) in revenue for the 2017-18 season, to top the annual list for the 12th time in 22 years, financial services firm Deloitte said in its Football Money League on Thursday.

Real Madrid’s rival, Barcelona, recorded GBP 611.6 million last season, ranking as the world’s second highest-earning club.

“Real Madrid's outstanding financial performance in 2017/18 is built on their long history of success on the pitch, most recently three consecutive Champions League titles,” Deloitte’s sports business group head Dan Jones said.

“This has enabled the club to continue to drive commercial revenue as the appetite to partner with Europe's most successful clubs remains stronger than ever,” Jones added.

Manchester United was the wealthiest club for two of the past three years and eight times in the last decade.

The English giant slipped into the third spot, having generated GBP 590 million in the 2017-18 season.

Clubs in England’s Premier League took six of the top ten spots, but Spain’s two biggest teams prevailed.
