Golden Eaglets Lose Third-place Game At U-17 AFCON

Angola defeated Nigeria 2-1 on Saturday, to claim the bronze medal at this year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania.

The Golden Eaglets, however, kept their ticket to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.

To get to this stage, Garba Manu’s men narrowly edged Tanzania in a nine-goal thriller; won by a goal from the spot against Angola; came from behind to draw against Uganda; and lost on penalty shoot-out against Guinea.

Nigeria went behind after a fine strike from top scorer of the tournament, Capita, before Wisdom Ubani levelled the scores.

Andre Sebastio Zito then netted the winning goal for the Angolans three minutes after the break.

Cameroon and Guinea will contest Sunday’s final in Dar es Salaam.
