CHIPOLOPOLO Of Zambia Crowned 2019 COSAFA Champions

Zambia on Saturday afternoon were crowned Cosafa Cup champions after beating neighbours Botswana 1 – 0 in the final played in Durban South Africa.

It was a game of two halves that saw Zambia outplayed in the first half but came back in the second half to control and dictate the game to win it with a Tapson Kaseba lone goal.

Coach Aggrey Chiyangi made no changes to the team that started against Zimbabwe in the quarter final win. But as was the case in the quarter final, the Chipolopolo started slow and were chasing shadows despite creating chances.

Botswana were also not doing themselves favors as they were not troubling Sebastian Mwaange enough despite their dominance in possession.

Mwaange was in top form keeping out a shot from Cooper in the 4th minute before he reacted quickly in the 25th minute to keep out a point blank save in the 6 yard box after the defenders failed to keep clear a corner.

After the break, Zambia looked determined and started taking the game to their opponents creating chances but they were being wasteful in front of goal.

The pressure finally paid off when a ball floated from the left was cushioned Beson Sakala for eventual official man of the match Kaseba who made no mistake to tap-in from close range for the only goal of the match.

The win sees Zambia pick the fifth Cosafa Cup title to pull close to erstwhile Champions Zimbabwe who have six.

Zambia have been consistent having played in the last three finals.
