Man United interested in signing Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes
Manchester United are interested in signing Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, according to a respected source.
Sky Sports News report that Fernandes is one of a number of targets for the club ahead of the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old is reported to have fallen foul of coach Bruno Lage after not featuring in any of the Benfica’s last seven games and his representatives are exploring his options.
T he player’s entourage were reported to be in England over the summer looking for a club for Fernandes and Sky report that they have arrived in UK again as they try and broker a deal.
RMC report that Ligue 1 side Lyon are preparing to offer a loan deal with the option to buy for Fernandes, who has made just seven starts this season.
The report claims Lyon will make a bid for the player as soon as president Jean-Michel Aulas returns from holiday.
They will make a loan offer with an option to buy, with Benfica hoping for a deal worth no less than €40m.
Like United, Inter Milan are also interested in Fernandes, who is believed to have a release clause of £102m.
But Benfica have conceded they will not get that kind of money for the player, who is under contract until 2023, and who was also interesting Liverpool and Tottenham last summer.
