24-year old mother of 8-month-old baby hangs herself after argument with boyfriend

A suicidal mother of an eight-month-old baby girl tried to get medical help one week before she took her own life.

Chloe McDaid, from Wallasey, Merseyside, hanged herself at home and was found unresponsive by her father days after she was discharged from hospital.

The 24-year-old mother to Melodie, had told medics she was suicidal and had sought help with her mental health as far back as 2011, an inquest into her death heard.

Liverpool Coroner's Court heard how Ms McDaid took her own life shortly after having an argument with her partner on June 26.

Despite the best efforts of her father and paramedics to conduct CPR, Ms McDaid was placed in an induced coma and died later at Arrowe Park Hospital on July 2 2019.

Ms McDaid, who worked as a barmaid, was diagnosed with ADHD and moderate depression and had sought help for anxiety.

She had been described as a 'fantastic mum' and 'the kind of person who would light up a room with her smile'.

The mother-of-one visited hospital on November 23 2018 for help with depression and anxiety.

The court heard how Ms McDaid had attended appointments in March last year but subsequently missed later appointments in April.

On June 3, Ms McDaid had sought more help and was referred to Bowmere Hospital, Chester.

Despite saying she'd had suicidal thoughts, she was discharged on June 11 and then seen by medics again on June 14.

Her family questioned why she was only discharged after one week and said: 'It takes more than a week to even get over a cold.'

Det Supt Int Phil Atkinson said there was also evidence that Ms McDaid had self-harmed.

Investigating Manager for Brackendale Ward at Bowmere Hospital Sam Hare said an investigation had been undertaken into Ms Mcdaid's death.
