Manchester United Signs Super Eagles Forward Odiin Ighalo In Short Term Loan From Chinese League

Manchester United agreed to a shock loan deal for former Watford striker Odion Ighalo and West Ham sealed the big-money signing of free-scoring Hull forward Jarrod Bowen in a dramatic finish to an underwhelming deadline day.

Ighalo, who plays for Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League, has agreed to a move to Old Trafford until the end of the season.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made no secret of his desire to bring in an attacker this month, especially after Marcus Rashford's back injury compounded the northern summer departures of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

United had expressed an interest in Bournemouth's Josh King but preferred a loan deal and were unable to reach an agreement on a permanent transfer, meaning attention turned to Ighalo, who will now follow big-money signing Bruno Fernandes into the club.

With a statement on their official website , Premier League giants Manchester United have announced the signing of former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.

Ighalo will spend the remainder of the 2019-2020 season on loan at Manchester United and is eligible to represent the club in the Premier League, Europa League and Emirates FA Cup.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted at signing the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer, labeling him an experienced and professional center forward.

Speaking to United's official website, the Norwegian football tactician said : "Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different type of centre-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us.

"A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here".

Former Udinese, Granada and Lyn Oslo man Ighalo netted 40 goals in 100 outings for Watford prior to his move to China in January 2017.
