Rwanda to conduct thorough assessment to determine when schools will reopen

Schools in Rwanda will remain closed for a thorough health assessment, which will then determine when and how they shall reopen.

The ruling on schools is one of the latest resolutions passed by a cabinet meeting that was held Friday, August 14 in Kigali.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s office added that: “Remote learning continues to be encouraged and should be strengthened.”

Schools have been shut since Rwanda announced it’s first COVID-19 case in mid March, with government stating schools will likely remain closed until September at the earliest.

Rwanda has recorded 2,293 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of whom 1,604 have already recovered.

Rwanda’s Covid-19 death toll currently stands at 8.
