Natalie Dormer is an English actress who is mostly known for her role as queen Margaery Tyrell in the HBO fantasy TV series, Game of Thrones.

Early Life

Dormer was born on 11 February 1982 (38 years of age) in Reading, Berkshire, England. She is the daughter of Gary Dormer and wife Claire Richards. Dormer had her secondary education at the Chiltern Edge Secondary School before moving to Reading Blue Coat School. She took dancing lessons at the Allenova School of Dancing and acting lessons at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London

Career

After Dormer failed to secure a spot to study history at the University of Cambridge, she decided to audition for drama schools. Her first professional acting role was in the Shakespeare comedy ‘The Comedy of Errors’ in 2003. Dormer received a lot of admiration for her role as Anne Boleyn on the Showtime series ‘The Tudors’ (2007–08), which fetched her two nominations for a Gemini Awards for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Drama Series.

She also played the Duchess of York in Madonna’s film ‘W.E.’ (2011) and Private Lorraine in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ (2011). In 2012, Dormer played a spectacular role in ‘After Miss Julie at the Young Vic’. Another internationally acclaimed performance of Dormer is her role as Margaery Tyrell in the HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’  which aired from 2012–2016. She was nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards (2014–2015).

Some of her other works includes Irene Adler/Moriarty in ‘Elementary’ (2013–15), Cressida in ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ – Part 1 (2014) and Part 2 (2015), and Sara Price/Jess Price in ‘The Forest’ (2016), Magda in ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’, etc.

In an interview with Suchandrika Chakrabarti for the New Statesman in November 2018, Natalie Dormer revealed why she is not on social media. According to her, she is concerned about being ‘mis-quoted.’

Dormer was engaged to Anthony Byrne but broke off the engagement somewhere in 2017. She, however, worked with Anthony after the break-up, co-writing the film ‘In Darkness’ which was released in July 2018. She described their working together as “challenging”.

Since 2018, Natalie Dormer has been in a relationship with David Oakes.
