Amara, Nigerian lesbian tackles ‘demonic’ Christians, says she is not sin

Amara, popular Nigerian lesbian and LGBTQ advocate has accused Christians of shaming her because of her same-sex sexual orientation.

Sharing screenshots of comments left on her Youtube channel by the Christians she described as demons, the gay rights activist insisted that she is not a ‘sin’.

“Everyday, this is what I deal with. Christians going out of their way to shame me or pray for me like I am sin. I really want to scream but we go dey use play play answer away these demons. I AM NOT A SIN,” she wrote.

In recent months, however, numerous Nigerians have taken to social media to profess their undying love for persons of the same sex gender.

In 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. He unleashed the largest restriction of basic rights in the country since the end of the military dictatorship in 1999.

The law punishes any public show of affection; even a kiss, between two people of the same sex, with 14 years in prison.

Anyone who speaks out in support of or meets with or participates in a group advocating for the rights of lesbian; gay; bisexual; as well as transgender; and intersex (LGBTI) people also risks 10 years in prison.
