Information reaching the news desk of MuchTalksBlog from a source resident in Awka around the scene revealed she heard gunshots at about 11pm on Sunday night which caused her and other residents to take to heir heels and scamper for safety.
Our source speaking in vernacular said,
" The kind speed I take run go hide under my bed eeee, I left my plate of pepper soup,
" Ndịa abatago Awka oo
" Ụmụ Ibe, Awka don finally cast ooo. Avoid Roban and CBN junction, Aroma and Ifite," she added.
MuchTalksBlog Investigating further was informed that a group of unknown gunmen in mufti had attacked B’ division police station located opposite the Jerome Udoji Secretariat in Awka.
It has not been confirmed whether or not there are casualties as some police officers are reported missing while some have confirmed taking cover in the bush.
In voice note recorded by a resident in Akwa and currently going viral, a woman was heard begging Nigerians to pray for them as sound of sporadic shooting was heard in the background of the recording.
Another source also revealed that the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka was also attacked and was set on fire.
He said,
" A sad one, they shot for more than 1hr at B-Division then they stopped at Ekwueme Square and shot like for 10mins, before proceeding to INEC Office and set it ablaze."
He also added that the gunmen came in about 3 hilux cars.
