Ebonyi To Question Officials Over Attack On INEC Offices

Ebonyi state government has disclosed that it will issue query to some of its officials over the razing of offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.

Recall that unknown persons suspected to be hoodlums razed two INEC offices on Tuesday night in Ebonyi.

Condemning the tragic incident, INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu said if such attacks continue, it may disrupt the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise, scheduled to resume in June 2021.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting on Wedmesday, the Ebonyi commissioner for information and orientation, Uchenna Orji disclosed that the affected officials include Nora Aloh and Chinyere Nwogbaga, chairpersons of Ezza north and Ebonyi LGAs, respectively, where the burnt INEC offices are sited.

The information commissioner added that other government officials who will answer questions on the incident, are Solomon Okoronkwo, commissioner for LGA and chieftaincy affairs, and Enekwachi Akpa, senior special assistant (SSA) to the governor on state and LGA affairs.

“The affected officials should explain why disciplinary actions should not be taken against them for failing to take proactive actions that could have prevented such occurrence,” Orji said.

“We are waiting for the outcome of the query which will be issued by the secretary to the state government.”

He noted that the executive council also warned all public office holders to rise to the responsibilities of their offices.

“They should be diligent and passionate in their duties as disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone who fails in this regard,” he added.
