Police Arrest 15 Suspects As Rival Cult Groups Clash In Lagos

Fifteen suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with a supremacy clash between rival cults in the Mushin area of Lagos state.

It was gathered that the clash  started when a yet-to-be-identified inmate was released from police custody. The ex-convict, who was said to be on a revenge mission to deal with those linked to his arrest, allegedly instigated his followers to attack those fingered in his arrest.

The attack led to a series of fights involving a factional group of hoodlums  led by the ex-convict and other opposing forces, which created tension around Alafia Junction, Da–Silva Street, among other areas in Mushin.

The hoodlums, who deployed different weapons, including guns, axes, cutlasses and bottles, took advantage of the unrest on Sunday to burgle shops and damage property belonging to traders and residents.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the 15 arrested suspects would be charged to court soon.

Ajisebutu added that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had stationed patrol teams in the area to avert reprisal.

“Immediately the clash started, we were alerted and the CP detailed policemen to restore normalcy in the area. Fifteen suspects were arrested on Sunday. Seven cutlasses, one axe and cartridge were recovered from them.

“A deep-rooted investigation will reveal the actual cause of the fight, but investigation is ongoing. We have yet to arrest all the suspects involved, but the arrested suspects are assisting our investigation in tracking down other fleeing members involved in the clash,” he added.
