Actress Ufuoma McDermott Reacts As Government Bans Muslim’s Morning Call To Prayer

Actress Ufuoma McDermott has reacted to Rwanda's Ministry of Local Government's (MINALOC) recent decision to ban the Adhan or overnight Muslim call to prayer.

The ban was enacted in response to public concerns about noise pollution.

The practice of mounting loudspeakers on mosque minarets began in Asia in the 1930s and spread throughout the world. Every day, five calls are made to summon the faithful to their five daily prayers.

Residents in Rwanda have complained about the earliest call to prayer, which occurs between 04:30am and 04:49am and lasts about two or three minutes, according to Rwandan authorities.

Reacting to this, Ufuoma McDermott said in a blog comment section that it is a welcome development and good for everyone, as the government had previously banned similar calls for prayers by Christians.

She wrote:

“he has already done it (banning that of Christians)…and it is a welcomed development for all.”
