Iceland Squad: We’re All With You, Ikeme
Iceland national team have shown support for Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme who was diagnosed with acute leukemia in 2017, MuchTalksBlog reports.
The Icelandic team’s support to Ikeme was confirmed by their forward Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, a former teammate of Ikeme at Wolverhampton Wanderers, on Twitter on Sunday.
Bodvarsson posted a picture holding a shirt with Ikeme’s name and No.1 on it with his teammates surrounding him.
Ikeme, who would have been the Super Eagles first choice in Russia, was diagnosed with acute leukemia during a pre-season routine medical check-up at his club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“All of us in @footballiceland are with you @Carl_Ikeme,” Bodvarsson who now plays for Championship club Reading wrote on his handle.
Iceland will take on the Super Eagles in their second Group D game at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
They stunned Argentina by holding them to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
