Angry Youths Set Ablaze Police Station Over Killing
Another case of utmost police brutality has been heavily criticised after officers of Nigerian police force’s invasion of Iwo, Osun state led to the beating a young man to death for allegedly stealing phones.
The deceased with the name, Sabitu Muyhdeen, popularly called MD was an aluminium fabricator, primarily based in Ile Ife and travelled to Iwo on 19th of September to participate in the Election within the state.
This is coming weeks when many youths took to the streets to protest the police brutality within the city and set the Police command station ablaze after one Nofiu was reportedly shot dead at Odo-Ori market while boarding a motorbike to Ile-Ogbo.
An eyewitness revealed that MD was apprehended on Wednesday, 26th, September when he was pointed to the police by a teenage boy as the one who sent him to go and steal phones.
According to him, MD was heading out on that fateful day and a boy of about thirteen years of age started following him, after following him for a while and he was about to challenge the boy, the police came and bundled him into their vehicle and conveyed to the station in Adeeke.
“When we got to know and his mother got to the station within not more than three hours. We couldn’t recognize him again. There, the policemen attached to the station brutalized the innocent MD to the extent it could not walk on his own and left him with no medical attention.
“He went to coma the following day after his family were denied access to give him medical attention severally. He was rushed to Idowu Hospital who referred them to UCH and due to strike, they were referred to BOWEN Hospital in Ogbomoso on Friday where he was placed on oxygen to breath. Test were conducted and he was confirmed he wasn’t suffering from any ailment.
“The family were told to go and conduct a brain test at one hospital in Ilorin and the result of the test also said he was fine. He gave up the ghost on 1st October 2018.
“Personally, I feel more than sympathy for this innocent young man; in fact, I feel deep empathy for MD and his family’s financial incapacitation.”
However, it was gathered that one officer identified as Ajeyinfa has been arrested and taken to State CID by the DPO on the order of state Police Commissioner.
