Arsene Wenger Hails 'Quality And Experience' Of Long-term Rival Jose Mourinho

Mourinho has been criticised this term and now Wenger, who he regularly clashed with, has had his say.

Arsene Wenger has backed Jose Mourinho to get Manchester United "back on track".

Mourinho has come in for criticism this term with United sat seventh after 11 games, nine points off league leaders Manchester City .

He looked set to be axed last month before the dramatic 3-2 victory over Newcastle at Old Trafford and United's fortunes have improved since then.

And now his long-term rival Wenger has offered some support for the Portuguese boss.

The pair regularly clashed and exchanged verbals in press conferences and on the touchline during Wenger's time at Arsenal .

But Wenger told beIN Sports: "‘It looks to me that against Everton and Bournemouth he turned his team on the right side in terms of the performance.

"His team was down and responded twice in a very positive way. Overall you can trust his quality and experience to get Manchester back on track."

Asked if there had been a change in Mourinho's approach this term, the Frenchman added: "‘I don’t see him working everyday so I don’t know if he has changed or not.

"We had very heated confrontations so for me I don’t think his motivation has dropped."

Wenger meanwhile has been linked with a return to management with AC Milan after leaving Arsenal at the end of last season.

But he insists there is no agreement in place to move to the San Siro, branding the reports as "fake news".

Wenger added: "The only thing I can say it’s fake news. If I signed somewhere I would tell you. It’s wrong information.

“I can not master the rumours, I am just focused on doing well for beIN Sports and that’s not easy.”
