Young Man Arrested For Killing His 19-Year-old Ex-girlfriend After She Refused To Sleep With Him

A young man was arrested on Monday, for killing his 19-year-old girlfriend out of anger when she dumped him and started a relationship with another man.

The murder took place at about 7pm on Friday at a quiet spot in Krorl Ko village in Kandal province’s Mok Kampul district, Cambodia.

According to Kandal Provincial Court documents, the accused was farmer Orn Oeun, 18, who lived in the village. The victim was Srey Leap, a garment worker from Chraing Chamres commune, in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district.

Mr Oeun was charged with intentional murder and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted. He was arrested on Friday and has been sent to the provincial prison pending his trial.

Mok Kampul district police officer Captain Hok Seang said the accused and the victim were boyfriend and girlfriend. They had been together for more than a year but had not yet got married.

Cap Seang said that in early January, they separated after an argument. Ms Leap later contacted another man who became her boyfriend. This new boyfriend was a garment worker beside her at a factory in Russey Keo district.

Cap Seang said that on the day of the murder, the accused, who was angry that the victim had a new boyfriend, persuaded her to meet at a quiet place in Sambour Meas commune to try to restart their relationship. He took her there on his bicycle.

“During the meeting, the accused allowed the victim to become engaged to her new boyfriend, but he asked her to have sex with him first,” Cap Seang said. “The victim refused. The accused then grabbed her and tried to rape her. She fought back to stop being raped.”
. .

“The accused was angry that she would not have sex with him and was afraid that she would tell police or her relatives,” he added. “He then killed her by hitting her many times with big pieces of wood on her face and head, killing her on the spot. After killing her, he fled on his bicycle.”

Ms Leap’s was found in a canal in Sambour Meas commune by villagers who alerted police.

Cap Seang said the accused was arrested on Friday at about 10am at his home, based on the evidence of his underwear and T-shirt which were left at the murder scene.
