Gary Neville Explains Why Manchester United Will Miss Ander Herrera
Gary Neville believes Manchester United will need to recruit a new midfielder on the back of Ander Herrera's impending free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Basque midfielder is expected to move to Paris when his United contract expires at the end of the season.
Neville believes Herrera has been a good servant to United and says his expected departure is a blow and creates extra work for United to do during the transfer window.
“United need to strengthen at the back with full-backs and centre-backs, they need another midfield player,” Neville told Sky Sports of United's overall transfer requirements. "Reports this morning are that Herrera is going to PSG, so they’ll need to strengthen in midfield just to replace what’s there.
“I think it’s a loss Ander Herrera leaving. If you’re going to have five midfield players, which any modern-day squad would need, particularly if you’re going to play three in midfield, you can’t have everybody that’s going to be A1 perfect.
“They can’t all be Pogba sort of ability. You need people like Ander Herrera, who has done a brilliant job, he’s been a great pro, he’s been good to the club, he’s behaved well. Everything’s been right about him.
“He does a good job in certain games, He compliments what Pogba is and what Matic is. Matic is more of a static player whereas Herrera is more of a runner and gets about the pitch.”
It was reported in Spain earlier this week that Herrera will sign a four-year deal with PSG.
