Missy Elliott To Receive MTV’s Video Vanguard Award
Missy Elliott is set to become the first female rapper to receive the Michael Jackson video vanguard award at the 36th annual Video Music Awards scheduled to hold on Aug. 26.
And this comes months after she also became the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Elliott is the fourth rap artist overall to receive the video vanguard honor, following LL Cool J (1997), Beastie Boys (1998) and Kanye West (2015). Per Billboard, she will perform live on the VMAs, which will be her first appearance on the VMAs stage since 2006.
Speaking about the impact Ms. Elliott has had on the culture, Bruce Gillmer, head of music and music talent, Viacom and co-brand head, MTV International, said, “Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible. Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.”
