US Senator, Kamala Harris Will Propose Bill to Make Juneteenth a National Holiday
In celebration of Juneteenth, US senator, Kamala Harris plans to propose a bill to make it a national holiday.
The event which gained widespread momentum this year as a result of nationwide protests of #BlackLivesMatter, addressing police brutality and racial injustice, has become recognised by a number of corporate organisations in the US as an official and paid holiday.
Taking to her Twitter account, Harris who serves as a junior senator representing California, revealed that she and her colleagues had it in the works to make Juneteenth a national holiday.
She tweeted;
“Juneteenth should be a national holiday. My colleagues and I are introducing a bill to make it one”.
