62-year-old man remanded over alleged stealing, receiving of stolen property
A 62-year-old man, Joseph Adeleke has been remanded by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing and receiving stolen property.
The accused person was charged with four counts of conspiracy, stealing, receiving stolen property and possession of Indian hemp.
The accused person allegedly committed the offences between February 3 and February 10, 2021 at the Celestial Church of Christ, Moore Cathedral and Lafogido Area in Ile-Ife
The police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adesina, told the court that the accused person conspired with others still at large, to commit felony to wit: stealing, receiving of stolen property and unlawful possession of Indian hemp.
Adesina said that the accused person and others, now at large, stole an Itel mobile phone, valued N10,000 and a hand purse containing N8,000 cash, property of Oluwaseyi Akinola and a Tecno Spark 4 mobile phone valued N20,000, property of Micheal Oluwagbemileke.
He said that the accused person also carted away Nokia 2.0 mobile phone valued N20,000 and Qubo 219 mobile phone, valued N8,000, property of Foluso Adejuwon.
The prosecutor said that the accused person also stole an Itel A56 mobile phone, valued N35, 000, property of Ismail Agbaje, and Itel 515 mobile phone, valued N29, 000, property of Oluwapelumi Owojori.
He said he equally received a stolen Item, a A56 mobile phone, valued N35,000, property of Ismail Agbaje.
Adesina said the accused person unlawfully had in his possession one Samsung mobile phone suspected to be stolen property and weeds known as India hemp.
According to him, the offence committed contravened Sections 415, 427, 430 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations leveled against him.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Unah Sunday, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most libral term, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would produce substantial sureties.
Magistrate Abiona Adebayo declined the bail application and ordered the remand of the accused person at Ile-Ife Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned till March 22, 2021, for hearing.
