Court arraigns two persons for damaging govt property

 


Two persons were on Monday arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging government property and beating up a security guard.


The duo, Ayoola Olalekan and Balogun Emmanuel allegedly committed the offence on March 1, 2021, at Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife.


The accused persons were charged with conspiracy, assault and malicious damage.


The prosecutor, ASP Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused persons with others still at large, conspired to commit felony to wit: serious assault and malicious damage.


He informed the court that the duo allegedly damaged the Louvre windows of the Oduduwa College building with pebbles.


He also alleged that the accused persons beat up Cpl. Emmanuel Aderibigbe, a security guard while performing his lawful duty.


The offence committed contravened the provisions of Sections 356, 451 and 526(A) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.


The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.


The Defence Counsel, Mr Sunday Olagbaju, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms, assuring that they would not jump bail since they had reasonable persons to stand as sureties.


Magistrate Abiona Adebayo granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety in like sum.


Adebayo ruled that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.


The case was adjourned till March 28, for further hearing.
