Europa League: Arteta names areas Arsenal must improve after 1-0 loss against Olympiakos

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has identified areas his team needs to improve after their 1-0 Europa League round of 16 second-leg defeat against Olympiakos on Thursday night at Emirates.

Arteta said Arsenal needs to improve on their ‘efficiency’, ‘simplicity’ and ‘cohesiveness’ as a team.

Youssef El-Arabi’s goal ensured Olympiakos defeated Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

But the Gunners qualified for the quarter-final on 3-2 aggregate, having defeated the Greece side 3-1 in the first leg.

Asked if Arsenal will be out if they play as badly in the next round, Arteta said at his post-match press conference: “Yes, because what we have to do, the way we are set up, the organisation we have and the way we want to play, we have to be much more efficient, much more simple, much more cohesive as a team.

“Without that structure, you are exposed when you lose the ball in really dangerous areas without any opposition.

“When you do that, and we did that as well where we created chance after chance, but again, we want to be in the competition, and when you have four, five, six big chances in Europe, you have to put them away, and then the tie is over.”
