Police Kill Suspected Armed Robber In Benue
The Benue State Police Command on Wednesday killed a suspected armed robber along the Makurdi-Laafia road.
It was gathered that the gang who were dressed in police and military uniforms, were reported to have mounted road blocks along the busy Makurdi-Laafia Road, dispossessing residents of their valuables.
It was reported that the policemen in the area engaged the robbers in a gun duel during which the suspect was hit.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, said, “On March 31, 2021, around 12.10am, a team of police officers on patrol encountered armed robbers in military and police uniforms robbing commuters of their belongings.”
“On sighting the police, the robbers engaged the police in a gun battle, but were overpowered by police response and repelled to a nearby bush.”
“One of the robbers sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.”
The PPRO said the corpse of the deceased was deposited in the hospital’s morgue, adding that investigation was ongoing.
In another development, the factional umbrella body of Fulani Herdsmen, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has said there were organised killings by vigilantes, supported by some state governors.
The National President of the association, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, and National Secretary, Engr. Saleh Alhassan, said this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.
