Buhari: Twitter deletes President’s post warning against civil war
Social media giant, Twitter, on Wednesday, June 2, deleted a controversial post by President Muhammadu Buhari regarding the Nigerian Civil War.
This came in the wake of recurring attacks on police facilities in the South-East region of the country.
MuchTalksBlog had also reported that Buhari on Tuesday after a security briefing about the attacks on facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the South East, categorically threatened to deal with those who, according to him, want to destroy his government.
He had said such individuals or groups will receive the shock of their lives as they will be treated in a language they will understand.
The tweet, which was posted on Tuesday, read in part, “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
This statement did not go down well with many Nigerians who felt Buhari’s comments were insensitive particularly as his administration had not spoken hard on northern elements who cause trouble in the country
A comment by Twitter stated, “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules”.
Renowned critic of Buhari, Reno Omokri also lauded the decision of Twitter over the controversial post.
Omokri tweeted, “I commend Twitter for deleting Buhari’s tweet threatening Civil War 2 on Nigeria’s SE. It was a most irresponsible tweet and Nigerians are grateful to Jack for taking that action. But please do not stop there. Delete his account. Buhari is a menace to the world.
