Man docked for allegedly stealing vehicle parts

A 37-year-old man, Sunday Inyene, on Friday appeared before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing Toyota Hilux parts worth N1.7 million.

Inyene, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offenses with some others at large, on Nov. 7 at 5.00 a.m., at No. 12, Abiona St., Surulere.

Ekhueorohan said that the defendant stole the brain box and electrical window module of the vehicle belonging to Mr. Richmond Mordi.

He said that the defendant was caught by security guards and handed over to the police.

Ekhueorohan said that the offenses contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 prescribes three years jail terms for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Sadiq Bello, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Bello said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until Dec. 2 for mention.
