OFFICIAL: Dani Alves rejoins Barcelona

 


After five years of being away, Dani Alves has finally returned to Barcelona for a second spell, the club confirmed with a statement on Friday. The 38-year-old defender joins Los Blaugrana as a free agent on a one year deal, with reports suggesting that he will be receiving €1 every week as his salary.


Dani Alves initially joined Barça in the summer of 2008 and exited the club as the most decorated defender in the history world football with. He made 391 official appearances, scoring 23 goals, assisting 74 time and winning 23 titles at with the Catalan club. Following his exit in 2016, the former Sevilla full-back joined Juventus and, subsequently, where he won two and six titles respectively.


Since 2019, Alves has been at Sao Paulo where he won the Campeonato Paulista this year but left in September after a dispute over unpaid wages. He had previously made his desire to return to Catalonia for a second time clear and following the appointment of Xavi as the club's new head coach, rumors of a possible reunion for the pair who played together for eight years resurfaced. On Friday, the club issued a statement that an agreement in principle had been reached for the veteran full-back to rejoin his former side.


"FC Barcelona and Dani Alves have reached an agreement in principle for the player to join the football first team for the remainder of the current season," the statement read.


"The Brazilian will be joining training from next week but will not be able to play until January. The club will announce the full details at his official presentation as a new FC Barcelona player."
