Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen tests positive for Covid ahead of Man City clash
Andreas Christensen will miss Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Manchester City on Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19.
Chelsea are already without Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James and Ben Chilwell due to injury but they did welcome back N’Gole Kante and Thiago Silva in their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel said: “No news which is good news. Trevoh will be out, Reece James out, Ben Chilwell out.
“We have one new positive Covid test with Andreas Christensen so he will be out of the game.”
Tuchel also suggested that he will give Kenedy a chance to earn his place in the squad.
Kenedy joined Flamengo last summer after signing a contract extension with Chelsea but has been recalled from his loan spell at Brazilian side Flamengo with Tuchel ready to involve him in the team.
Tuchel added that Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who was on loan at Fulham last year, has “a lot to fight for.”
“Ruben has a lot of game time compared to the last years. He has a lot to fight for here in my personal opinion. This will happen behind closed doors,” Tuchel said.
“About bringing players back, it's not only about the need but the possibility. We sent them out for a year and they have a certain role at their clubs.
“Kenedy is back and I am very happy about it. It's a huge opportunity for him to make his mark at this club and this team. We will try now, from today on, to push and support him.”
Chelsea are 10 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
