Ogun footballer bedridden one year after breaking leg during match

 

A 22-year-old footballer, Samson Alamu, is bedridden after he dislocated his leg while playing for a football club in Oke-Odan, Yewa-South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Samson, who has cried out for help over the deteriorating condition of his leg was said to have taken to football as a means of livelihood after he finished from Muslim Progressive High School, Oke-Odan in 2017.

According to PUNCH, the victim sustained the injuries on July 3, 2020, during a match between his team, Oke-Odan Football Club, and the Ayetoro Football Club.

A cleric with the African Church, Ebenezer Parish, Oke-Odan, Revd. Sola Omogoye, lamented that Samson was left to his fate as his family struggled to raise money for his treatment.

Omogoye noted that he was on a mission in the town when he stumbled on the victim.

The cleric said, “I was posted to the town on October 1, 2021. I was on visitation to one of my parishioners and on getting to their family house to pray for them, the father took me to a room where he was abandoned.

“To me, he was abandoned in that room because the odour in the room is not palatable. And that was on November 5, 2021. He was into football to feed himself when he got injured.

“Since I saw the boy, I have not been the same anymore; even to eat is difficult. So, I feel if the boy will still survive, he needs help; the poverty level is high.”

The footballer’s  father, Sunday Alamu, said the family took him to native doctors to set his bones.

He, however, said when his condition deteriorated, he was taken to some government hospitals in the area, but was allegedly rejected.

Sunday said, “We took him to several hospitals in Oke-Odan, but he was rejected. They asked us to go to where they could arrange the bones.

“My boy needs people who would come to his aid for treatment so he can walk again. He cannot even walk to get fresh air unless we carry him.

“The boy has been bedridden for more than one year and unable to go anywhere since then.”

PUNCH reported that Oke-Odan Football Club could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report.
