One dies as vigilantes clash in Rivers
One person was reportedly killed during a clash involving a disbanded vigilance group, known as OSPAC, and a newly formed local security outfit identified as EMOVIS in Omuobizu, Ibaa community, in the Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to PUNCH, community sources said the clash occurred on Saturday .
A source said, “The disbanded vigilance group, OSPAC, has been factionalised.
“Don’t forget that when the Enuoha LGA Chairman, Dr Chidi Lloyd, assumed office, he disbanded all vigilance groups in the area.
“He later set up a new vigilance group called EMOVIS. What I don’t know is if the split of the disbanded OSPAC is linked to the attack on Saturday. But one person died.”
The acting spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident identified the victim as one James.
Iringe-Koko said, “Yes, we are aware. One person died and calm has returned to the area. Though no arrest has been made, an investigation has been launched to find out the immediate and remote causes of the attack.”
