Veteran Al Jazeera reporter killed by Israeli army gunfire in West Bank
On Wednesday, an Al Jazeera female reporter was murdered in the occupied West Bank by Israeli army gunfire, according to the Qatar-based news station.
However, the Israeli military claims she was shot by Palestinians during a battle with Israeli forces.
Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian official, was “assassinated” by Israeli soldiers while reporting on a raid in Jenin, which has experienced more army incursions in recent weeks as unrest has risen.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health verified Abu Akleh’s death and reported a second reporter, Ali Samodi, was injured.
In a statement, the military said its troops had shot back after coming under “massive fire” in Jenin.
It said “there is a possibility, now being looked into, that reporters were hit – possibly by shots fired by Palestinian gunmen”.
