21-Year-Old Mother Flushes Her 12-Day-Old Baby In The Toilet

A 21-year old girl, Amudalat Taiwo, has thrown her 12-day old infant to a pit latrine at Ogun State, as a result of her inability to care for the baby.

The incident happened on June 20, at 28, Isheri Street, Ilaro. It was learnt that Amudalat’s husband, recognized as Taiwo Owolabi, had because the delivery of their kid, abandoned her to his other spouse that also bore him five children.

The mother was arrested following a complaint lodged with the police by her landlord, Oshunshina Olawale, that one of his tenants heard the cries of a baby inside the pit toilet when she visited.

The toilet was later broken and the baby rescued. Upon interrogation, Amudalat confessed to committing the crime, claiming that she was an orphan.

She stated further that her husband was not taking care of her and the baby and that since she had no means of catering for the baby, she decided to do away with her.

The baby is presently in a stable condition at the Stella Obasanjo motherless baby home in Abeokuta and Amudalat’s husband has also been arrested for failure to provide necessary needs for the mother and the child.
