Neymar’s Team-Mate ‘Likes’, Controversial Tweet Suggesting, Eden Hazard, Is Worth Double World Record, Fee Paid For Brazilian
Neymar ‘s Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Thomas Meunier has liked a tweet suggesting his compatriot Eden Hazard is worth double the €222m (£200m) paid for him last summer by the French club .
Meunier performed excellently directly against the world’s most expensive player as Belgium eliminated Brazil in the World Cup quarter-finals .
In the battle of No.10s, it was Chelsea star Hazard who came out on top with former Belgium international Leo Van der Elst praising his compatriot .
“If Neymar is worth €222m, then Hazard is worth double,” he told Belgian broadcaster Sporza. “With respect for the great footballer Neymar is, but at this World Cup he has not shown that he is worth his price tag .
“Hazard, in turn, played a great match, I read the statistics this morning and he deserves 10 out of 10. Hazard is extremely difficult to get rid of and his dribbles were always on target, just give me Hazard instead of Neymar.”
Meunier liked the tweet , with speculation over Hazard’s future discussed in recent months .
The Blues star only has two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, meaning this summer may be the last opportunity to extract maximum value from a potential sale if Hazard refuses to sign a contract extension .
Belgium now face France in the semi-finals on Tuesday with a place in the final in Moscow up for grabs .
Hazard has thrived in Roberto Martinez’s attack-minded system, scoring two and assisting two more at the tournament.
