Oyedepo Declares Prayer, Fast Over Election Violence In Coming Election
The founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has called on his congregation and all Christians in Nigeria to begin a seven-day prayer and fast to avert an impending calamity that may follow the 2019 general elections .
Oyedepo announced this in a memo read to the congregation during the service at Faith Tabernacle, Ota, on Sunday .
Making an allusion to the alleged intimidation that marred the Osun State governorship rerun election held on September 27, the bishop said happenings in recent elections held in some states were pointers to what politicians were planning to do during the next general elections .
Oyedepo’s memo was also read during Sunday service in all LFC including the Winners’ Chapel, Osogbo .
He said politicians had started stockpiling arms to destroy whoever would stand on their path to electoral victory during the polls, saying this was why Christians needed to seek divine intervention “to avert the devastation that seems to lie ahead of our great nation.”
He enjoined all Christians in the country to join the prayer and fast programme which would start from Monday, October 22 and end on October 28 to cry to God to save the nation from wicked politicians, who he said were ready to wreck the nation in order to achieve their political ambition.
“Recent elections that held in some states and some quarters across Nigeria are pointers to the need for divine intervention for the rescue of our nation to avert the breakdown of law and order in the forthcoming general elections in this coming year.
“Political thuggery has assumed a new dimension in Nigeria, where many voters were not able to access the polling booths because they did not belong to the group that must win. Some even resisted access even to the point of killing the opposition.
“If anyone is not sure of returning home from going to cast his vote and would not want to risk his life for that, how then do we determine the winner?
“This is how much the soul of Nigeria is in distress and would require divine intervention for rescue.
“There is nothing wrong with a ‘must win’ determination, that is what the spirit of sportsmanship is all about, but this must be channelled through legitimate means only and not by killing the people one claims he wants to serve.
“Today, we cannot tell how much arms some individuals or group may have piled up to accomplish their political ambitions, by being determined to kill innocent Nigerians that may stand in their way. We have no choice but to pray for God to heal our land and deliver us from all forms of election crises.”
