The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday said it had arrested a lunatic identified as ‘At all at all’ at Tekunle Village in Ondo East Local Government Area of the state, for killing two people with machete in Ayeyemi area of Ondo .
The two people killed by the lunatic were a policeman; and a 75-year-old man, identified as Mr. Olusegun Oyadele. The identity of the deceased policeman was yet to be revealed as at the time of filing this report .
No fewer than four other people were also injured in the attack by the mad man, carried out on Saturday .
A source in the community told Punch correspondent that the lunatic, who was well known in the community, first attacked the old man who was drying his cocoa beans in front of his house, after which he killed one of the policemen that wanted to arrest him .
The source said, “We don’t know what came over the mad man; he attacked and killed the old man .
“When the matter was reported at the police station, a team of policemen were sent to the area to arrest the lunatic .
“As the policemen arrived at the scene, the mad man also attacked and killed one of them with his machete and injured four other people before running into the bush.”
The source said, all attempts by the policemen to arrest the lunatic with firearms were not successful.
He said it was like a drama at the scene of the incident when the policemen wanted to arrest the lunatic.
“Each time the policemen wanted to arrest him he would disappear and reappear like somebody doing magic entertainment, before he finally disappeared into the bush and escaped arrest,” the source added.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the lunatic was later arrested after a team of policemen led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, chased and arrested him in the bush early Sunday morning.
“We have arrested him. The CP led a team of policemen and some hunters and vigilante groups to arrest him at Tekunle Village. He is currently in our custody.”
