Nigerians in Fierce Argument With SA Police Over The Murder of a Compatriot
An altercation between Nigerian nationals and law enforcement officials erupted outside the Sasolbug police station, yesterday, following the death of a Nigerian man alleged to be a drug dealer.
37-year-old Iyke Paul Nwokocha died during a search for drugs by the SAPS Sasolburg/Kroonstad Cluster members, in his house in Sasolburg.
Although details surrounding his death are unclear, the police alleged that he died as a result of drug of overdose, an allegation his fellow Nigerians denied. They accused the police of beating him to death.
However, Constable Peter Kareli of the Free State SAPS insisted that Nwokocha died as a result of drug overdose.
“The man escaped during the raid when he saw that police were on to him and swallowed the drugs while he was running. The postmortem results have shown and confirmed that he overdosed,” said Kareli.
