Massimiliano Allegri On Juventus Exit: “Life Goes On”
Outgoing Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has spoken for the first time since news of his departure broke out.
The Bianconeri released a statement on Friday confirming that Allegri will leave Turin after five years in charge.
The former AC Milan coach hadn’t got off to the best of starts at Juventus as fans threw eggs at his car for his first training session at the club.
Over the years, however, Allegri won them over after winning four successive domestic doubles prior to this season. Juventus also finished runners-up to Barcelona (2015) and Real Madrid (2017) in the Champions League final.
Despite leading the Old Lady to an eight successive Serie A title this term with a month remaining, Allegri has been criticised for his tactics in recent fixtures with pundits and fans alike regarding this season a disappointment.
Following the blockbuster arrival of five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, the pressure was firmly on Juventus to end their 23-year wait for Champions League glory.
Instead, they fell to a surprise quarter-final defeat to Ajax and lost the chance of a fifth consecutive domestic double when Atalanta defeated them 3-0 in the last eight of the Coppa Italia.
Despite repeatedly stating his intention to remain in Turin, Allegri’s departure was announced following talks with chairman Andrea Agnelli this week.
“It took five years to build this Juve, but that’s that. Life goes, comes and goes,” said Allegri, as quoted by Football-Italia .
“I’m going home now, then I’ll have a little break by the sea.
“I don’t know [who will replace me], but Juve will choose a great coach because Juventus are a great club.
“It’s been five years of wonderful love. Five years for me are so many!”
Allegri has won 191 and lost 38 of his 269 matches in charge of Juventus.
The Italian will now prepare for his final home game with the Serie A champions against Atalanta on Sunday.
