Mike Tyson gives his verdict on mythical match-up with Muhammad Ali
MIKE TYSON has weighed in on the debate of mythical match-ups between boxing greats and thrown the spotlight on a fight between himself and Muhammad Ali.
Tyson was rated as the hardest puncher ever by the late Ali and both are seen as among the best heavyweight fighters to ever take to the ring.
And now the 53-year-old has given his verdict on how the bout between himself and Ali would go.
‘I would know one thing – I would have to be ready to go 15 rounds,’ Tyson said on social media.
‘I would be prepared to go 15 rounds with him because listen, I’m just keeping it real, ain’t nobody knocking him out.
‘In his prime, they ain’t knocking him out. Even [Larry] Holmes, Ali’s one strange guy, you’ve gotta kill him to beat him, he won’t quit.
Tyson became youngest heavyweight world champion when he knocked out Trevor Berbick
‘Isn’t that weird, in his prime he looks like a model, he doesn’t even look like a fighter.
‘It ain’t pretty, he’s not pretty either, he’s a junkyard dog with a pretty face. He’s pretty, but he ain’t pretty. Inside he’s as nasty as me. He’s a vicious animal.’
Ali had seen enough of Tyson in the late 1980s to tip him to become the best fighter in the history of the sport.
Ali is regarded best heavyweight ever but feared he wouldn’t have beaten Tyson
The boxing legend even feared that he wouldn’t have been able to beat Tyson.
George Foreman claimed:’Muhammad Ali told me himself. I said to him, “Do you think Tyson could beat anybody?”
‘He said, “Man, Tyson hits so hard.”
‘He felt Tyson hit harder than anyone he’d faced. He told me once that he didn’t have the confidence he could have beaten Mike Tyson.’
