Social Media has become the place where fans follow up their favourite celebrities to keep up with their daily life and activities.

As expected, all celebrities definitely do not have the same number of following on the socials due to the fans they have gained over the years and connections they have made.

Some celebrities have more following than others on the socials

Today, we take a look at the Top 10 female celebrities in Nigeria, who have the most followers on Instagram in 2020.

1. YEMI ALADE (12.3 million followers)

Yemi Alade

Yemi is an Afropop singer, songwriter, actress and activist. She won the Peak Talent Show in 2009 after which she signed to Effyzzie Music Group, and had a hit with her single “Johnny” in 2014 which gained her popularity beyond Nigeria. She has since been doing great in the music industry and is no doubt one of the most popular female songstress in Africa.

2. TIWA SAVAGE (11.8 million followers)

Tiwa Sava, a singer, songwriter and actress participated in the UK edition of The X Factor. She graduated from Berklee College of Music, and signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009. Inspired by the growth of the Nigerian music industry, Savage moved back to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records in 2012. Her success has been one for the books.

3. FUNKE AKINDELE (11.6 million followers)

Akindele-Bello Olufunke Ayotunde is an actress and producer. She’s best known for her comics roles. Funke starred in the sitcom I Need to Know from 1998 to 2002, and in 2009 she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She plays the lead character in her own show, Jenifa’s Diary, for which she was named Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

4. INI EDO (10.3 million followers)

Ini Edo is an actress. She began her film career in 2000, and has featured in more than 100 movies since her debut. In 2013, she was a judge for the Miss Black Africa UK Pageant. In 2014, Ms. Edo was appointed by the United Nations as aUnited Nations Habitat Youth Envoy.

5. MERCY JOHNSON (9.1 million followers)

Mercy Johnson Okojie is one of the most talented actresses, who is good at what she does. She is also producer. In 2009, she won an award for Best Supporting Actress at the 2009 African Movie Award ceremony for her performance in the movie “Live to Remember” and Best Actress award at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for her role in the comedy movie “Dumebi the Dirty Girl”.

6. REGINA DANIELS (8.7 million followers)

7. GENEVIEVE NNAJI (8 million followers)

Genevieve Nnaji is one actress that is loved by many. She’s also a producer, and director. She won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actor to win the award. In 2011, she was honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contributions to Nollywood. Her directorial debut movie, Lionheart, is the first Netflix Original from Nigeria, and first Nigerian submission for the Oscars. Though the movie was disqualified for having most of its dialogue in English. Genevive is popularly known by one of her character names, Sharon Stone.

8. SIMI (8 million followers)

Simi, is a singer and songwriter. She started her career as a gospel singer, releasing her debut studio album in 2008, titled Ogaju. She gained prominence in 2014 after releasing “Tiff”, a song that was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015. Simi signed a record deal with X3M Music in 2014, but left the label in May 2019 following the expiration of her contract.

9. CHIDINMA EKILE (7.5 million followers)

Chidinma, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. In 2010, she rose to stardom after winning the third season of Project Fame West Africa. Following the release of the music video for her “Emi Ni Baller” single, she became the first female musician to peak at number 1 on the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 chart.

10. RITA DOMINIC (6.8 million followers)

Rita Dominic starred in her first movie in 1998, tittled, “A Time to Kill”. She won the City People Awards in 2004 as the Most Outstanding Actress. In 2012, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
