Police Allegedly Shoot Truck Driver Dead In Plateau

 

Policeman attached to the Plateau State Police Command allegedly shot a truck driver, Saddam Adam, dead at the Kuru checkpoint in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

Friends and family members of Adam took to social media to demand  justice for the death of the truck driver that happened last Thursday.

A Twitter user, @Hei_zinberg, stated via tweet that the truck driver’s death last Thursday was unprovoked.

The post read, “This is Saddam Adam, a truck driver for BHN Logistics, Port Harcourt. He was shot dead, unprovoked, by a policeman of the @PoliceNg yesterday at Kuru Checkpoint in Jos, Plateau state according to several eyewitnesses. We demand justice for Saddam. @AmnestyNigeria @NhrcNigeria.”

He attached pictures of the victim to the post, showing him lying motionless on the seat of the truck, with blood stains on the floor.

The police through their Twitter handle, @PoliceNG_CRU, responded and indicated that the “complaint is hereby acknowledged and investigation has been initiated. Your tracking number is #CRU174657, Thank you for contacting NPF-CRU.”

According to The Nation, the unfortunate incident, which happened around 7.30pm, Thursday, at Railway Crossing, Kuru, along Mararaba Jama’ar – Riyom Road.

A police officer from the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the corpse of the truck driver has been deposited in a mortuary in an undisclosed Hospital, while the truck with Ogun State registration number GBE 49 ZC is in police custody.

“The officer, who shot and killed the driver, has been arrested and taken to the CID for detention, while investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The three officers at the Kuru Railway crossing that day were on a ‘Pin Down Operation’ but how that incident happened still remains a surprise,” the officer explained.
