Wike: Nigeria will be buried if Ortom is assassinated

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has stated that the assassination of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, will result in the death of Nigeria.

Wike was reacting to the attack on his Benue counterpart, Ortom, on Saturday.

MuchTalksBlog reports that Ortom was attacked earlier on Saturday by suspected herdsmen while visiting a farm in Makurdi. However, his security detail succeeded in repelling the attackers. Ortom revealed that he ran for more than one and a half kilometres without stopping during the attack.

Consequently, the Rivers Governor, Wike has reacted to the development.

“If you kill Ortom, then be prepared to bury Nigeria. If anything happens to Governor Ortom, the Federal Government will be held responsible….They should be prepared that there will be no more Nigeria,” Wike stated.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by his spokesman, Kelvin Ebiri.

Further, the statement says Wike recalled how the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Major General Jamil Sarham, and All Progressives Congress chieftains had concluded plans to assassinate him during the 2019 General Election; adding that the growing trend where the lives of incumbent governors are brazenly threatened was disturbing.

Meanwhile, Senator Olujimi Abiodun of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escaped death by the whiskers as suspected hoodlums wreaked havoc during the by-election into the vacant Ekiti East Constituency 1 Assembly seat on Saturday.

Senator Olujimi, a native of the Omuo Ekiti, represents Ekiti South Senatorial District,

MuchTalksBlog reports that at least three persons were feared dead during the attack by the hoodlums who invaded the community to snatch ballot boxes. However, a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, confirmed that only six persons were injured.

“Today, some hoodlums attacked Ward 7 Unit 7 during the House of Assembly bye-election. In the process, six people were injured. Among them were two policemen and one National Youths Service Corps NYSC) member; who are currently receiving treatment in Ikole General Hospital.’’
