Omituntun Free Health Mission targets 400,000 Beneficiaries by June
The Oyo State administration has revealed that about 400,000 residents of the State would be captured in the next quarter of the Omituntun Free Health Mission, scheduled to hold between May and June 2021.
Disclosing the readiness of the agency to newsmen at his office on Thursday, the State Coordinator, Omituntun Free Health Mission project; Dr. Wale Falana stated that the last time the Mission held its free health project which covered medical challenges like cataract extraction surgery, Caesarian section, HIV/AIDS test and treatment, dental care as well as other communicable and non-communicable diseases, over 200,000 people across the State benefited.
Dr. Falana further revealed that the eye care section of the mission got a boost when Engr. Seyi Makinde authorized the purchase of eye surgery machines which enhanced the surgical extraction of cataract and other eye diseases. Free reading glasses were also distributed to the people, which he said would last a period of three months before the start of next quarter.
“The next Omituntun Free Health Mission project will hold between the months of May and June this year, as we await the approval of the State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the next quarter and we project to cover more than 400,000 beneficiaries in all the areas of health challenges that people may have, especially among those who cannot afford the cost of medical care.”
“The one we did last was so successful that we covered over 200,000 beneficiaries within the period of operation and those who benefited might even come again to test and build more on their medical well-being when we start the next one.”
Doctor Wale Falana consequently appreciated the State Ophthalmologists and personnel of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital for their support so far. He also called on the people to take advantage of the health mission project to know the state of their health and get quality, free treatment from the programme.
The Omituntun Free Health Mission team, which is comprised of medical practitioners from the State Health agencies and supporting organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations toured Oyo State; from Ibadan to Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso and Oyo township.
