2023: Bola Tinubu Yet to Sign Peace Accord, Aide Reveals Why

 

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, has not yet added his signature to the Peace Accord intended to promote the peaceful conduct of the election.

According to reports from MuchTalksBlog, the National Peace Committee (NPC) has decided to give the presidential election, which is set to take place on February 25th, 46 days to prepare.

The committee disclosed that the designated spot for the APC presidential candidate’s signature is still unoccupied.

As a matter of policy, the NPC prohibits vice presidential candidates or party chairmen from signing on behalf of presidential candidates, according to Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo, a member of the committee.

The clergyman asserts that each candidate who has thus far signed the peace agreement did so directly and without the aid of any intermediary.

The “APC presidential candidate didn’t sign our peace accord,” he declared categorically. We forbid the use of proxy.

However, according to Barkindo, the NPC’s doors are still open, and any candidate who is interested is welcome to visit their office and sign the document.

The former governor of Lagos State, according to Tinubu’s media spokesman Tunde Rahman, was not present when the Peace Accord was signed.

Rahman revealed that Tinubu had given Adamu Abdullahi, the national chairman of the governing party, the authority to sign on his behalf.

He said:

When the peace accord was signed, Asiwaju was not in the country and the APC chairman and vice presidential candidate attended and party chairman signed on behalf of Tinubu.

There was no information that he was expected to come and sign again when he returned to the country.

There was an issue about whether a VP should stand for the presidential candidate or not, but that it was decided that the chairman or any officer of the party can attend and sign the peace document.

According to MuchTalksBlog, the NPC is co-chaired by former head of state General Abdulsalami Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar II, Cardinal John Onayeikan, Bishop Hassan Kukah, and other distinguished statesmen. The NPC’s goal is to support efforts to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.
