2 men allegedly beat man, rape his girlfriend
Lagos— Two unemployed men, Azeem Akeem, 27, and Opeyemi Okunola, 21, who allegedly assaulted one Daniel Effiong, and raped his girlfriend, were, yesterday, arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Igbosere.
The defendants are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault and rape preferred against them by the Police.
The suspects, whose residential addresses were not given, were docked before Magistrate K. S. Abdulsalami.
The prosecutor, Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offence on November 30.
He said the incident occurred at the back of The Palms Shopping Mall, Victoria Island, Lagos, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area at about 1.30a.m.
He said the defendants did conspire together to assault one Daniel Effiong by beating him with a stick and inflicting injury on his body with the intention of having unlawful sexual intercourse with his girlfriend.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Abdulsalami granted them N100,000 bail each, with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State government with their statement of account.
Abdulsalami added that the sureties must have a statement of account and have their addresses verified.
The case was adjourned to January 15, 2018 for a mention.
