‘We know he is capable, now he needs to prove it’ – Dele Alli must now concentrate on football, says former Spurs ace David Gino
Former Tottenham star David Ginola has urged Dele Alli to concentrate on his football and bounce back from his decline in form, after finally resolving his new agent search.
The whole Spurs team have struggled in recent weeks, having gone four Premier League games without a win, but Alli has not looked the same player for most of the season.
His drop in form has been attributed to distractions off the pitch and particularly his hunt for new representation – a number of top sporting agencies have been fighting to sign the 21-year-old after he split with his agent Rob Segal in August.
But he has now resolved the matter by signing for CAA Sports – the same agency as Jose Mourinho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Spurs team-mate Harry Kane.
Tottenham face APOEL in their final Champions League group game on Wednesday evening and, while a number of Spurs’ other key players have been rested, Alli will be given a chance to recover both form and confidence and will start the game.
And Ginola hopes the midfielder can use the opportunity to draw a line under his mid-season slump and get back to his best.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast , the former Spurs star said: "We expect so much from big talents and Dele Alli is one of them, he’s definitely a huge talent for Tottenham and England.
“Obviously Mauricio Pochettino is expecting a lot more from Dele Alli, especially right now.
“There has been a lot of controversies about him and we need to see more of him on the football pitch.
“Against APOEL, Tottenham have got nothing to play for, they’ve already qualified and Dele Alli has to focus on what he has to do on the pitch.
“Tottenham really need him to assist goals and to get more involved in the game.
“We know he is capable, but now he needs to prove it.”
