Steven Gerrard : No defender in the world would want to come up against Marcus Rashford
Steven Gerrard has hailed the directness of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford .
The Liverpool great and former-England captain expects Rashford to be a key player for the Three Lions at next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
No defender would want to come up against Rashford, Gerrard believes, who has netted eight times this season in all competitions and assisted on four occasions in the Premier League alone. He turned 20 only recently.
Asked whether Rashford would be important for England in Russia, Gerrard responded: “Oh yeah definitely.”
“I love how direct he is. When he smells blood he just goes right at defenders and with that pace he plays to his strengths,” Gerrard continued.
“If you’re a defender in that position he’s one player you don’t want to come up against, especially when he gets you in a wide area in a one v one, he can absolutely destroy you,” Gerrard enthused on BT Sport on Tuesday night.
Rashford had just ended a mini-goal drought of nine games with a fantastically composed left-footed finish into the far corner to secure a 2-1 win for Man United against CSKA Moscow and ensure the Reds topped Group A of the competition.
Rio Ferdinand also hailed Rashford for his maturity, which is shockingly high for a player of his age both on and off the pitch. However, the former-United man claimed Rashford should continue to work on. his finishing, which isn’t quite at the levels of other parts of his game.
