United Alexis Sanchez Ruled Out For Six To Eight Weeks

Manchester United have been dealt a fresh injury blow as Alexis Sanchez will miss key games against PSG and Arsenal after being ruled out for at least six weeks, according to reports via the Manchester Evening News .

Sanchez started for United alongside Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku against Southampton on Saturday but the Chilean international required treatment early in the second half following a collision in the oppositions box.

The 30-year-old was replaced by Diogo Dalot in the 52nd minute and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted after the dramatic 3-2 victory that he feared Sanchez may have damaged his knee ligaments which would rule him out for a significant portion of their run-in.

It appears those fears were well placed as the M.E.N are citing quotes from the Chile national team doctor Pedro Onate who claims the attacker is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Onate told Chilean outlet elmercurio that he’s been in touch with Sanchez and the former Arsenal star confirmed he’s suffered ligament damage which will keep him out for between six to eight weeks

Onate is quoted by M.E.N as telling
elmercurio:
“Yes, we communicate with the player today (yesterday) they take the exams and that (ligament damage) is the injury. No, there will be no problems for him to reach the Cup (Copa America), because he will be between six and eight weeks without playing.
“Alexis may even play again before those deadlines. Also, a lot is missing for the Copa America. The distension of the medial ligament is an annoying injury, but not so complex.”
The news means Sanchez will miss Wednesday night’s huge Champions League second leg clash with Paris Saint-Germain as well as this coming weekend’s trip to the Emirates to take on former club Arsenal.

United head to north London on Sunday afternoon sitting just one point above fifth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League table so the match will go a long way to determining which club finishes in the top four this season.

Sanchez’s absence will be a fresh headache for Solskjaer as the caretaker United manager is having to deal with a crippling injury list with nine players currently on the treatment table.

Anthony Martial has a chance to return against Arsenal but Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Matteo Darmian, Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia could all join Sanchez in missing the trip to the Emirates.
